Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Rodriguez's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Rodriguez put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let the Sheldon Huskies get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2022.

Jackson Kolakoski tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Rodriguez let Justin Gregory and Drew Beasley run wild. Gregory scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Beasley scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Beasley is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Benjaman 'BJ' Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Rodriguez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Rodriguez is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. Sheldon now has a losing record of 3-4.

Looking ahead, Rodriguez will square off against River City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. River City's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Rodriguez's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Sheldon, they will face off against Cosumnes Oaks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sheldon's pitchers better be ready for this one: Cosumnes Oaks has averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
