Highland extended their winning streak to nine on Monday, bumping them up to 14-3. Everything went their way against the Scotland County Tigers as they made off with a 22-11 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Corinne Brinkley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Highland got a massive performance out of Hannah Ritterbusch, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Ritterbusch a new career-high. Ali Lundberg also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Highland lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
As for Scotland County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.
On Scotland County's side, Kenzington Miller made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Lilly Frederick, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Scotland County, they will challenge Novinger at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.13 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
