If the Chula Vista Spartans were feeling good off their 60-23 takedown of the San Ysidro Cougars last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Chula Vista was the victim of a tough 57-34 loss at the hands of the Mustangs on Friday. Chula Vista lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 65-19 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Chula Vista saw an underclassman step up: Malissa Mckoy almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Mckoy has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played.
Mya Bermudez was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with four steals for Otay Ranch. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Daffron, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

As for Otay Ranch, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Chula Vista won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd. As for Otay Ranch, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on February 7th. Victory Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mustangs in California (the Knights are ranked 193rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 582nd).
