The Fullerton Indians will be taking part in a tournament against the Aliso Niguel Wolverines at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Fullerton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Aliso Niguel will be up against a hot Fullerton squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Indians blew past Segerstrom 19-2 on Wednesday. That looming 19-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Indians yet this season.
Logan Thien was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thien was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Weber Warden and Christian Park dominated on the mound. Warden tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Park tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Fullerton got a big performance out of Sammy Chacon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Chacon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Park, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Fullerton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Aliso Niguel is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Citrus Valley on Saturday, but Citrus Valley came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over the Blackhawks. The two-run effort marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Weston Wendlandt looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Aliso Niguel's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Henry Drews, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That RBI was Drews' first of the season.
Fullerton's record is now 7-1. As for Aliso Niguel, their record now sits at 5-0-1.
Fullerton's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Indians have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Aliso Niguel, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Fullerton continue to outrun the ball?
Fullerton was able to grind out a solid victory over Aliso Niguel in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 4-1. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
