Having just played yesterday, the Oceanside Pirates will jump right back in to play the Newport Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Oceanside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Wednesday.
After a string of three wins, Oceanside's good fortune finally ran out. They took a hard 55-36 fall against Santa Margarita. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Oceanside has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Martina Griffin, who scored 16 points along with seven steals. She scored a full 44.4% of Oceanside's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Kaye, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Newport's 17-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Wednesday. They snuck past Rolling Hills Prep with a 49-45 victory. Newport's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Oceanside's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Newport, their win bumped their record up to 1-4.
