Baseball Recap: Long Beach Poly Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Long Beach Poly, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Jordan Panthers on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-6 last Saturday.

Tate Hammond made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Long Beach Poly: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Fausto Gaxiola and Giovanni Migliazza did most of the damage at the plate: Gaxiola scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Migliazza scored a run while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Migliazza has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Izaiyah Gutierrez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Long Beach Poly pushed their record up to 8-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jordan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9-1 record this season.

Long Beach Poly will venture away from home to square off against Cabrillo at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jackrabbits are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Jordan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Millikan at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
