Mars has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Mars Fightin' Planets and the Baldwin Highlanders will round out the year against one another at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Mars strolled past Hampton with points to spare, taking the game 54-40. Given Mars' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Hampton is ranked 418th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mars got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cecilia Christy out in front who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Christy scored 15 or more points. Vita Vargo was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Baldwin gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on December 1st. They put the hurt on Pine-Richland with a sharp 50-28 win.
Mars' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Baldwin, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-0.
Mars and Baldwin were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in October of 2018, but Mars came up empty-handed after a 55-54 loss. Can Mars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
