Cabrillo hasn't had much luck against Long Beach Poly recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Jaguars will look to defend their home field against the Jackrabbits at 4:00 p.m. Cabrillo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Cabrillo came into this matchup off a tough 15-run loss on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Compton by a score of 6-4 on Friday.
Fabian Vigil put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Vigil wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eli Torres, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That double marked the first that Torres has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Long Beach Poly waltzed into their contest on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Saints with a sharp 10-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jackrabbits, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Cabrillo, Long Beach Poly also got a great game from a two-way player: Tate Hammond. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hammond was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Az Zuger looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Caleb Safotu, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Braylen Reyes, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Cabrillo's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Long Beach Poly, their win bumped their record up to 10-4.
Cabrillo suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Long Beach Poly in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
