Carlmont and Palo Alto are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Scots will take on the Vikings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Carlmont hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
On Friday, Carlmont didn't have quite enough to beat Menlo-Atherton and fell 2-1.
Carlmont saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Henry Massey, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Massey hit this season.
Palo Alto never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Los Altos on Friday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 11-7. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Eagles on their field since May 6, 2022.
William Hickey looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Palo Alto: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Jonathan Nguyen was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two runs, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Carter Bader was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
Palo Alto lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Palo Alto is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Carlmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
Carlmont was able to grind out a solid win over Palo Alto when the teams last played back in March, winning 9-5. Will the Scots repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
