The Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons will face off against the Andover Huskies at TBD on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Robbinsdale Armstrong extended their postseason success on Friday against Robbinsdale Cooper. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Hawks 49-14 on the road. Given Robbinsdale Armstrong's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Robbinsdale Cooper is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Andover came tearing into Friday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by Elk River at home to the tune of 65-32. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-16.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Dmario Davenport and Gavin Schmidt. Davenport had a great game and rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Meanwhile, Schmidt was balling out in the loss, rushing for 122 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, while also picking up 47 receiving yards.
The win makes it two in a row for Robbinsdale Armstrong and bumps their season record up to 8-2. As for Andover, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 9-1 record.
Robbinsdale Armstrong was taken down by Andover 42-7 in their previous meeting back in October. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Andover's Davenport, who rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
