The Omaha Central Eagles can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Saturday. They blew past Gretna East 67-33 on the road. Given Omaha Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Gretna East is ranked 189th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Omaha Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daleron Thomas led the charge by scoring 19 points. D.j. Sterling was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Gretna East saw an underclassman step up: Drayke Brown scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season.
Gretna East struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Omaha Central pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Omaha Central pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Gretna East, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Omaha Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Skutt Catholic at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Gretna East, they will head out on the road to face off against Columbus at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Griffin Micek and Talan Hovie.
