Crown Point is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while Lowell is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bulldogs will welcome the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Crown Point's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on La Porte with a sharp 7-0 win.
La Porte's batters probably weren't too happy with Paige Liezert, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 15 Ks (she gave up five walks). Liezert has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lulu Johnston, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Neal, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Lowell was not the first on the board last Thursday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Wheeler. Lowell's victory was all the more impressive since the Bearcats were averaging only 3.67 runs allowed on the season.
Riley Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Lowell got a big performance out of Isabella Baron, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Baron a new career-high. Preslee Hill was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Lowell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wheeler only managed five.
Lowell's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Crown Point, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Crown Point hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lowell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
