South Shelby hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cardinals will be playing at home against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m.
Louisiana hit South Shelby with a four-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cardinals lost 10-4 to the Bulldogs.
Kylie Million spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Bella Cook was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those runs were her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Highland had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Midgets. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Highland also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Abby Lay gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Lay.
On the hitting side, Hannah Ritterbusch was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addy Abell, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Highland's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for South Shelby, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.
