The Mott Corsairs will venture away from home to challenge the Seaholm Maples at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. Mott will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
On Thursday, Mott got the win against Avondale by a conclusive 20-4. The Corsairs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Evan Makulski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with eight stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Pozzi-Mondeau, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Shilling, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Mott always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Detroit Country Day hit Seaholm with a five-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Maples fell 8-3 to the Yellowjackets. The Maples' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Dylan Furlani was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Casey Goetz was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Mott is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Seaholm, they now have a losing record of 15-16-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mott has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Seaholm struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mott came up short against Seaholm when the teams last played back in May of 2025, falling 7-2. Can the Corsairs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
