Wyatt Hinman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Sonoma Valley's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Hinman was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base. That run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colin Buckley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Luciano Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Archie Williams ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Redwood 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Peregrine Falcons have posted since April 23, 2024.
Archie Williams' victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was August Block, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Block a new career-high in RBI (two). Another was Jake Barnes, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Sonoma Valley's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Archie Williams, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6.
Everything went Sonoma Valley's way against Archie Williams in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Sonoma Valley made off with an 18-1 win. Will Sonoma Valley repeat their success, or does Archie Williams has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
