Basketball Recap: Richland Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Richland suffered their biggest loss since December 4, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers, falling 60-36. The Rams have struggled against the Hilltoppers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Richland lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lanie Marshall, who posted nine points and six rebounds. Marshall has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kiya Wise, who put up two points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Richland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Richland's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4. As for Westmont Hilltop, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richland will square off against Penn Cambria at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Penn Cambria has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Westmont Hilltop, they will challenge Greater Johnstown at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Greater Johnstown will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Westmont Hilltop surely won't give up without a fight.
