The Platte Valley Broncos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wellington Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Platte Valley has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2.
Platte Valley suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2023 on Tuesday. Their rough 66-44 defeat to Highland might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Platte Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Highland is ranked 96th).
Despite their defeat, Platte Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lauryn Uyemura, who scored 12 points along with five steals, was perhaps the best of all. Uyemura has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedi Nelson, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wellington unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Liberty Common. Wellington has not had much luck with Liberty Common recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ava Essay, who scored 18 points along with four steals. That was a full 41.9% of Wellington's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brookelyn Jones, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Platte Valley dropped their record down to 1-12 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Wellington, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Everything came up roses for Platte Valley against Wellington in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 53-12 victory. With Platte Valley ahead 38-4 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
