The Springfield Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 52-30 defeat at the hands of Garnet Valley. While losing is never fun, Springfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Garnet Valley is ranked 23rd).
Leading Garnet Valley to victory were Kylie Mulholland and Emily Olsen. Mulholland scored 14 points along with three steals, while Olsen scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Olsen has scored all season. Addison Adamski was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Garnet Valley, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Springfield will be playing at home against Upper Darby at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Upper Darby is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Garnet Valley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mt. St. Joseph Academy at 10:30 a.m. on January 21st. Mt. St. Joseph Academy is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
