The MaxPreps National Player of the Year will be named at the conclusion of the 2024-25 high school basketball season, marking the 20th year for that honor going back to Greg Oden in 2006. Kevin Love (2007), Harrison Barnes (2010), Lonzo Ball (2016), Michael Porter Jr. (2017), Cade Cunningham (2020) and Chet Holmgren (2021) are among the winners in the years since.

At the approximate mid-way point in the season, it's time to look at the candidates to join that list. Standouts from Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, Utah and Virginia are among those who made the cut.
Darius Acuff, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)6-2 | Guard | Senior (2025) | Arkansas
Averaging 24.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 49 percent from inside the arc and 37.3 percent from 3-point range for the No. 1-ranked team in the National Top 10. Acuff earned co-MVP honors at the City of Palms Classic after tallying 31.5 points, 6.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds per out to lead the Ascenders to a third-place finish.

Top remaining unsigned senior is putting together an impressive campaign, averaging 23.4 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 53 percent from the field. Ament recently announced his top 11 schools with Alabama, Duke, Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas among those making the cut.
6-9 | Forward | Senior (2025) | Duke
Winner of the award as a sophomore, Boozer is averaging 21.4 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 55.1 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from 3-point range. The son of former NBA all-star Carlos Boozer looks to guide Columbus to its third consecutive state championship as the Explorers are ranked No. 2 in the MaxPreps Top 25 currently.
6-4 | Guard | Senior (2025) | Uncommitted
The catalyst for the top-ranked team in the MaxPreps Top 25, Burries is averaging 28.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per contest while shooting 55 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from 3-point range. Talented guard went off for 56 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and five steals in an early-season win.
6-9 | Wing | Senior (2025) | BYU
Top-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025 has put together a number of impressive performances this season with the highlights to boot. The explosive athlete is averaging 24.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game and recently put up 41 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a victory over Western Reserve Academy (Hudson, Ohio). Utah Prep is currently ranked No. 6 in the National Top 10.
6-3 | Guard | Senior (2025) | Houston
Versatile playmaker is averaging 21.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 2.7 steals per outing while shooting 59.2 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from 3-point range for the No. 10-ranked Bears. Flemings posted 46 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists in a signature victory over Dynamic Prep (Irving, Texas) in the second game of the season.
6-11 | Center | Senior (2025) | Kentucky
Dominant post presence is averaging 21.5 points, 14.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 blocked shot per game while shooting 66.4 percent from the field. Moreno posted 39 points and 11 rebounds while going 15 of 15 from the field in an overtime win against Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.) at the City of Palms Classic.
6-5 | Guard | Senior (2025) | Connecticut
One of the top sharp-shooters in high school basketball, Mullins is averaging 34.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.8 steals per game while shooting 65.1 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from 3-point range. The future Husky has scored 27 or more points in every game this season.

After leading the Pumas to three consecutive state championships during his illustrious career, Peat has helped Perry earn the No. 8 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25 this season. He is averaging 18.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field.
6-5 | Guard | Senior (2025) | Kansas
Makes an impact on both ends of the floor, averaging 30.8 points, 7.5 assists, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3-point range. All three of Prolific Prep's losses this season came with Peterson sidelined due to injury.
