Calvin Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Hoff, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Hoff is becoming a predictor of the Crusaders' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).
As for Foothills Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-11. 19 seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
On Foothills Christian's side, Jack Morgan and Jr Merino were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Morgan struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Merino pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Morgan has posted since back in March. At the plate, Morgan got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Merino went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Josh Howard was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Bruce Bailey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvin Christian will square off against Escondido Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Crusaders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Foothills Christian, they will take on Coastal Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Stingrays will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
