Ontario Christian hasn't had much luck against Aquinas recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Knights will face off against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m.
Ontario Christian is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Woodcrest Christian.
Brady Dinco put in work no matter where he played. He tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Dinco was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Matt Jimenez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Jacob Ericson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Aquinas came tearing into Friday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Aquinas also got a great performance from Hayden Vanderhoof as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Carter Hadnot was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mason Greenhouse, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Aquinas lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Aquinas' win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Ontario Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-20.
Ontario Christian suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to Aquinas in their previous matchup on Monday. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
