Two dominant players in Chloe Chappell and Aubrey Phanton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Holmes Aces will be playing in front of their home fans against the First Flight Nighthawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Holmes will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 260th, while First Flight is ranked 91st).
Holmes was handed a 35-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Currituck County on Friday. Holmes had just enough and edged Currituck County out 42-39. The win was just what Holmes needed coming off of a 54-19 loss in their prior matchup.
First Flight suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They were dealt a 55-28 loss at the hands of Hertford County. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points First Flight has scored all season.
The losing side was boosted by Phanton, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games.
Even though they lost, First Flight smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hertford County only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
The win got Holmes back to even at 5-5. As for First Flight, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Holmes strolled past First Flight when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 40-25. Does Holmes have another victory up their sleeve, or will First Flight turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
