The Sanger West Hornets will head out on the road to challenge the Torres Toros at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sanger West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 991st, while Torres is ranked 446th).
Last Tuesday, Sanger West came up short against Fresno and fell 33-24. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sanger West in their matchups with Fresno: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, Torres didn't have too much trouble with Sunnyside at home on Tuesday as they won 55-38.
Torres' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sabrina Cerrillo, who scored 15 points along with six steals and five assists, and J'Lynn Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Cerrillo hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Kaylin Perez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Sanger West's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-13. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Torres, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
Sanger West might still be hurting after the 50-27 loss they got from Torres in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Sanger West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
