Last Monday, Victory Christian Academy strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 44-26. Given Victory Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Eagles are ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Victory Christian Academy relied on the efforts of Maya Stinson, who scored eight points along with 20 rebounds, and Sophia Abella, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Abella has scored at least a third of Victory Christian Academy's points. Rylee Roy was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Montgomery proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 39) but on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Otay Ranch out 44-42.
Victory Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Montgomery, their victory bumped their record up to 14-11.
