West Platte proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Lawson Cardinals 5-4. The win was nothing new for the Bluejays as they're now sitting on five straight.
Sophie Grier was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Grier wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addy Hughes, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Maddie Cline also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
