They enjoyed a cozy 81-63 win over Hickory Grove Christian. Given Gaston Day's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Hickory Grove Christian is ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gaston Day found their leader in underclassman Griffen Simpson, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Simpson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kurt Hunter, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Gaston Christian came up short against Concord Academy on Friday and fell 68-56.
Gaston Day's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-8. As for Gaston Christian, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 12-13.
