West Shores and Borrego Springs are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The West Shores Wildcats' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Borrego Springs Rams at 4:00 p.m. on January 23rd. West Shores' defense has only allowed 20.8 points per game this season, so Borrego Springs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
West Shores stacked a fourth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard last Thursday. They breezed by Desert Chapel on the road to the tune of 46-12. West Shores' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Anastacia Garth was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Joana Cabrera, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Borrego Springs didn't have too much trouble with San Pasqual Academy at home on Wednesday as they won 26-8. The win was just what Borrego Springs needed coming off of a 38-6 defeat in their prior match.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Borrego Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Melanie Urquidez, who scored 12 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Urquidez has scored all season. Abigail Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with four steals.
West Shores' record is now 9-4. As for Borrego Springs, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: West Shores have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 19.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Borrego Springs, though, as they've been averaging only 23.8 rebounds per game. Given West Shores' sizeable advantage in that area, Borrego Springs will need to find a way to close that gap.
West Shores beat Borrego Springs 16-9 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Shores since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
