Having just played yesterday, the Venice Gondoliers will head out on the road to face off against the Fairfax Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Venice's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
While Venice didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-23), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They claimed a resounding 62-14 victory over Taft. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-9.

Venice found their leader in freshman Amiya Aldridge, who went 11-for-17 to rack up 26 points along with seven steals and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Aldridge has scored all season. Genevieve Yuge also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steals of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Fairfax took on University on Wednesday. The Lions blew past the Wildcats 40-19. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Lions have posted against the Wildcats since May 21, 2021.
Venice better keep an eye on Brooklyn Petty-Wright. She was instrumental in Fairfax's win, almost dropping a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. Those nine rebounds gave Petty-Wright a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Desiree Gage, who posted eight points and four steals.
Venice's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.0 points on average over those games. As for Fairfax, their record now sits at 3-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Venice has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Fairfax struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Venice came up short against Fairfax when the teams last played back in January, falling 56-51. Can the Gondoliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
