Mars has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Mars Fightin' Planets and the Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will round out the year against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Mars is ranked 199th in Pennsylvania, while Archbishop McNicholas is ranked 189th in Ohio).
Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Mars had to settle for a 55-53 loss against Trinity. That's two games in a row now that Mars has lost by exactly two points.
Meanwhile, even though Covington Catholic scored an imposing 58 points on Friday, Archbishop McNicholas still came out on top. Archbishop McNicholas skirted past Covington Catholic 61-58. The win was just what Archbishop McNicholas needed coming off of a 69-47 loss in their prior match.
Archbishop McNicholas relied on the efforts of Andrew Ehlers, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, and Grant Waters, who scored 24 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ehlers has scored at least 25% of Archbishop McNicholas' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mitchell Conrad, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Mars' defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Archbishop McNicholas, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Mars against Archbishop McNicholas in their previous matchup back in December of 2021 as the squad secured a 74-43 victory. Does Mars have another victory up their sleeve, or will Archbishop McNicholas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
