The St. Joseph's Academy Angels will head out on the road to square off against the Cor Jesu Academy Chargers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. St. Joseph's Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, St. Joseph's Academy got the win against Maplewood-Richmond Heights by a conclusive 9-2. Considering the Angels have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Julie Origliasso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sara Munaco, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Sophia Besmer also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Joseph's Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, Cor Jesu Academy hadn't done well against Rockwood Summit recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Chargers won by a run and slipped past the Falcons 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Alice Vogel made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024.
In other batting news, Beau Belz was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Grace Rasmussen, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
St. Joseph's Academy's record now sits at 5-6. As for Cor Jesu Academy, their record is now 9-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Joseph's Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Cor Jesu Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Joseph's Academy suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Cor Jesu Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Angels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
