Calvert is a perfect 3-0 against Columbian since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Senecas will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tornadoes at 1:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Calvert's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Cardinal Stritch 17-0. The Senecas might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Logan Ritzler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Tucker Coleman and Vincenzo Lyons did most of the damage at the plate: Coleman went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Lyons went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Coleman has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon King, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Columbian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Willard with a sharp 7-1 win on Thursday.
Like Calvert, Columbian also got a great game from a two-way player: Kyle Hepp. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Hepp also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Columbian is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-14 otherwise. Hepp was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Conner Reese, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Braden Egbert, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Columbian's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Calvert, their win bumped their record up to 21-2-1.
Columbian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Calvert hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. It's a different story for Columbian, though, as they've only averaged .213. Will they be able to contain Calvert's hitters?
Calvert got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Columbian by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Senecas repeat their success, or do the Tornadoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
