Softball Recap: Fullington Academy Wins Going Away Against Westwood

Fullington Academy barely beat Westwood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Wildcats on Thursday. Considering the Trojans have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Carli Gibson and Rayelee Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gibson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Johnson didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. What's more, Gibson posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in October of 2024. At the plate, Gibson went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Johnson went 1-for-4 with three RBI. That triple was Gibson's first of the season.

In other batting news, Brooklin Cromer was excellent, earning one run and three stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in August of 2024. Abby Mixon also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Fullington Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Westwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Fullington Academy is set to take on their familiar foe Crisp Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Westwood will challenge rival Southland Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
