Jim Thorpe is 9-1 against Lehighton since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Jim Thorpe Olympians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lehighton Indians at 7:30 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Jim Thorpe was the victim of a tough 64-40 defeat at the hands of Panther Valley. While losing is never fun, Jim Thorpe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Panther Valley is ranked 102nd).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kiara Ginopolas, who scored nine points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ginopolas has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Julianna Bowen, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Lehighton couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 43-31 to Blue Mountain on Tuesday. Lehighton has struggled against Blue Mountain recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Jim Thorpe's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Lehighton, they bumped their record down to 0-1 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Jim Thorpe didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Lehighton when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 41-36 victory.
