South Cobb had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 2-10 to make it ten. They came up short against the Paulding County Patriots, falling 17-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 8-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2020.
South Cobb saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Tanchez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That hit was Tanchez's first of the season.
As for Paulding County, the victory got them back to even at 6-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Paulding County's side, Wyatt Lehman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lehman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Hunter Redden looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Paulding County is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Dalton Smith and Liam Garrett did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Garrett went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Garrett has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Hudson McEntyre, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Cobb will venture away from home to challenge Lithia Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Paulding County, they will head out to square off against Osborne at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
