La Serna is a perfect 10-0 against Santa Fe since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Lancers will welcome the Chiefs at 3:15 p.m. La Serna's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Santa Fe's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
La Serna had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Los Altos on Thursday. The Lancers put the hurt on the Conquerors with a sharp 10-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lancers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Phillip Villa looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, Gibson Laracuente was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Xavier Nunez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe suffered their closest defeat since April 4th on Friday. They fell just short of El Rancho by a score of 4-2.
Santa Fe also got a good showing from Devin Mota, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mota has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Santa Fe saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Cardona, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
La Serna has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Fe, their loss dropped their record down to 10-16.
La Serna came out on top in a nail-biter against Santa Fe in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chiefs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
