On Monday, Canyon Crest Academy came up short against Escondido Charter and fell 55-48.
When it comes to explaining why Canyon Crest Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sofia Colon. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Colon has scored all season. Thrisha Boopathi was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
It was another big night for Kami Gillis, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three steals for Escondido Charter. Gillis is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Noelle Champagne, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Canyon Crest Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Escondido Charter, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-11.
Canyon Crest Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against El Camino at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Escondido Charter, they will head out on the road to challenge Tri-City Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Tri-City Christian is ranked 870th, while Escondido Charter is ranked 873rd).
