The West Union Eagles came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Houlka 70-55. Given West Union's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Wildcats are ranked 207th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Houlka still got an impressive performance from Nehemiah Flemmings, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shavar Gladney, who scored six points.
West Union is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for Houlka, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-13.
West Union and the Hawks will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Houlka, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Bruce is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
