The Arcadia/Loup City Rebels were the 33-30 winner over the Burwell Longhorns when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Arcadia/Loup City took a 32-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Longhorns on Friday. Arcadia/Loup City's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Arcadia/Loup City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eva Jaixen. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Jaixen hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Arcadia/Loup City struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burwell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaitlyn Simpson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Hughes, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Arcadia/Loup City's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-13. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Burwell, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arcadia/Loup City will take on the Buffaloes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Gibbon is ranked 260th, while the Rebels are ranked 237th). As for Burwell, they will play host again and welcome the Wolves, where tip off is scheduled for TBD on Tuesday. Twin Loup is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
