The El Toro Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Oak Hills Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
El Toro put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 73-29 win over Mission Viejo at home. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point El Toro had established a 41 point advantage.
El Toro's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mia Cubacub, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariana Mina, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Oak Hills had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on Hesperia with a sharp 63-39 victory. Given Oak Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Scorpions are ranked 516th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The win makes it two in a row for El Toro and bumps their season record up to 18-9. As for Oak Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.
El Toro might still be hurting after the 66-41 loss they got from the Bulldogs when the teams last played back in February of 2016. Can El Toro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
