Basketball Recap: Saguaro Gets the Win

Saguaro won the last time they faced Chaparral and things went their way on Thursday too. The Saguaro Sabercats walked away with a 59-49 win over the Chaparral Firebirds. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sabercats.

Alexa Simpson was nothing short of spectacular: she went 12 of 16 on her way to 28 points along with five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaeda Brown, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten assists.

Saguaro was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

Despite the loss, Chaparral saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kaelie Weishaar went 8 of 17 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendyll Dinh, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Saguaro now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Chaparral, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Saguaro wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-34 victory against Crismon on the 11th. As for Chaparral, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-39 win against Desert Mountain on the 10th.
