The McConnellsburg Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the North Star Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. McConnellsburg is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, McConnellsburg came up short against Fairfield and fell 40-32. While losing is never fun, McConnellsburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while Fairfield is ranked 154th).
Meanwhile, North Star scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They snuck past Shade with a 49-43 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for North Star.
Abby Barnick was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. The contest was her fifth in a row with at least ten points. Emily Johnston was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds.
McConnellsburg now has a losing record at 1-2. As for North Star, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6.
McConnellsburg didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against North Star in their previous meeting back in February of 2017, but they still walked away with a 64-59 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for McConnellsburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
