West had lost eight straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-21 to make it nine. They came up short against the East Bakersfield Blades, falling 18-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blades this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in March.
West saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Whitaker, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Zaiden Macedo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for East Bakersfield, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-6. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
On East Bakersfield's side, KANE CALVILLO made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, CALVILLO posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, NOAH FERGUSON was a standout: he went 5-for-6 with five stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. ONER LEYVA was another key player, getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
While West had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
