Nico Bavaro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.
At the plate, Ethan Silva was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Franklin faced Rocklin in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Wildcats walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Thunder. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly three runs.
Dylan Wood tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chance Moore, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Franklin's win bumped their record up to 25-7. As for St. Mary's, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 25-7.
St. Mary's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Rams have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Franklin, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will St. Mary's continue to outrun the ball?
St. Mary's beat Franklin 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
