West Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand United Christian Academy a 5-0 shutout. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
The result came thanks to Nathaniel Navarrete's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Israel Michel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Maximus Vega was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Elsinore got the win against Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-3. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Isaac Garcia made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Matthew Frias was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Willeford, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Elsinore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.8.
Elsinore's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for West Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
