Elias Hanley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because La Jolla Country Day is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-12 otherwise.
At the plate, Jackson Norum was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Cathedral Catholic waltzed into their game on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 2-0 win.
The result came thanks to Levi Uslander's shutout, as he gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Harrington, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Diezel Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Cathedral Catholic's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for La Jolla Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 18-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. La Jolla Country Day hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Cathedral Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
La Jolla Country Day suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Cathedral Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can the Torreys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
