It was a good run, but the Grimsley Whirlies unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Southwest Guilford. While losing is never fun, Grimsley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Southwest Guilford is ranked 123rd).
Grimsley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Autumn Clark, who scored 11 points along with three steals, and Briasiah Lee who scored 11 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Lee posted two or more blocks. Sanaya Blount was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Grimsley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Southwest Guilford, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.
Grimsley will head out on the road to square off against Northern Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northern Guilford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Grimsley likes a good challenge. As for Southwest Guilford, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Northwest Guilford at 6:15 p.m.
