West Shamokin is 0-6 against River Valley since December of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The West Shamokin Wolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the River Valley Panthers at 7:15 p.m. West Shamokin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 424th, while River Valley is ranked 103rd).
West Shamokin suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They were beaten by Portage 62-26.
Meanwhile, River Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against Cambria Heights by a score of 52-42.
Ava Persichetti continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of River Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Emilee Staats, who scored four points along with five steals.
West Shamokin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
West Shamokin might still be hurting after the 60-34 defeat they got from River Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Persichetti, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
