Softball Recap: Eureka's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of nine wins, Eureka's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marquette Mustangs. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this game were averaging 3.31 runs allowed.

Haley Deakin made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Those home runs marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleigh Niles, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Eureka's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Marquette, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Coming up, Eureka will venture away from home to face off against Westminster Christian at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Westminster Christian will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Eureka surely won't give up without a fight. As for Marquette, they will welcome Hillsboro at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
