Basketball Game Preview: Cochranton Cardinals vs. Maplewood Tigers

Cochranton is 2-8 against Maplewood since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Cochranton Cardinals duke it out with the Maplewood Tigers at 7:15 p.m. Cochranton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Cochranton will head into Thursday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 28) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Cambridge Springs out 49-47.

Cochranton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Macie Williams, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 10 points and three steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Eve Pfeiffer was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Cochranton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Maplewood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 52-19 victory over Rocky Grove. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Maplewood's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.1 points per game. As for Cochranton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
