After a string of three wins, the East Bakersfield Blades's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were dealt a 60-24 loss at the hands of Tehachapi. While losing is never fun, East Bakersfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 811th, while Tehachapi is ranked 153rd).
Tehachapi's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Riley Walden led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six assists. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Perkins, who scored 13 points along with six steals and four blocks.
East Bakersfield's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9. As for Tehachapi, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Bakersfield won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. West will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Tehachapi won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Arvin at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Arvin is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
